予想される飲み頃:2014 - 2015
The Deiss 2010 Alsace delivers subtle herbal and mineral nuances against a matrix of pear, peach, and nutty, earthy winter squash, shadowed by distilled fruit essences and pungent scents of citrus oils. Strikingly creamy at the same time bright and refreshingly juicy, this represents a more focused and concentrated wine than the airy, open 2011 (my accompanying review of which includes considerable detail about this important Deiss bottling). Mouthwatering salinity, crystalline mineral impingement, smoky nut oils and zesty citrus rind serve for a memorably invigorating and intriguing finish such as one would scarcely expect from an estate’s “volume driver.” I’m sure this will drink beautifully through at least 2015, but can’t yet speak from experience beyond that; and indeed, it will take several more years for this bottling to really acquire a track record as regards longevity. In contrast with 2011, Gewurztraminer was especially low-yielding in 2010, so it is correspondingly under-represented in this year’s blend.
