Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 1997 La Romanée Grand Cru, a Bouchard Père et Fils bottling that came from Louis-Michel's own cellar, was picked on September 22. It has one of the more attractive noses from this era, not dissimilar to the 1995, whereby the fruit seems less worked. There are lively red berry fruit, blood orange and Clementine, fine delineation and lift. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, ripe and slightly savory red fruit with a touch of gaminess coming through on the finish. This is still offering pleasure and offers grand cru class, even if I would not leave it in my cellar for a long period of time. Tasted June 2015.
