Frost can distort the style of white Burgundy, as the vines produce second and third-generation fruit to compensate for what was lost, and these grapes remain underripe, while the surviving first-generation fruit ends up super ripe, delivering wines that unite overripe and underripe characteristics. So, knowing that the 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was cropped at a mere four hectoliters per hectare, I was amazed that the wine remains unimpeachably classic in profile! Unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, vine blossom, white flowers, blanched almonds and struck match, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless, with a concentrated core of fruit and a long, chalky finish.
